Your documentation says, “You can also choose to automatically block IP addresses that are hitting too many 404s.” But it doesn’t mention how many times in the dashboard. Would it be worth it to have the site owner manually control this setting? Or at least put a note in the Firewall > 404 Detection Configuration > 404 Detection tab?

The “404 Detection” feature inside the “Firewall” menu will not automatically lock out IP addresses. You will need to manually select them from the 404 Event Logs and lock them.
The settings in that menu are designed to determine how long you want the IP address to be locked out and how you want to redirect those locked IP addresses after you manually lock them from the table.
