How long will it take the update to be completed?

Currently the status of the site states like this:
“While your site is being updated, it will be in maintenance mode. As soon as your updates are complete, your site will return to normal. “

    Please help!!!

It should only take a few seconds. If the main page of your site is the maintenance message, you need to get on your FTP and look for a file called “.maintenance” in the root directory, and delete it. Sometimes it gets stuck there when updating a site.

After that file is gone, your site should return to normal and you can check the status of the update. Each time this has happened to me, the site updated successfully, it was just the .maintenance file that didn’t get properly deleted.

Looks like there must have been a problem updating as it does not take long a few sec. You will need to update manually I have article and video on how to update wordpress manually.

    Hi Eric and Govpatel,

Thank you for the immediate response. Until know upon checking my admin, still in the maintenance mode. So i really need to check and delete the “.maintenance” within the root.

Is it possible that while in this mode(maintenance), I can’t able to add any post or even images in my media library.
Actually, I try to add some image, but i got this error.
“Unable to create directory /h****/t***ngl/public_html//wp-content/uploads/2011/03. Is its parent directory writable by the server?”

What im going to do here?

Using ftp or server allow hidden files to be seen and delete .maintenance file you will see along with .htaccess file.

Hi I was trying to update my site and get this message

‘Fatal error: Call to undefined method Arras_Widget_Tag_Cloud::WP_Widget_Tag_Cloud() in /websites/123reg/LinuxPackage21/wo/rk/_h/work-home.co.uk/public_html/blog/wp-content/themes/arras/library/widgets.php on line 404’

It’s been like this for a few hours now. Can anyone help, please? What do I do?

    Update your theme.

Download the latest version from the theme developer’s site and use FTP to copy it to the wp-content/themes folder on your site.

    Hidcruick1,

It’s the tag cloud widget. The theme that uses the widget may not be compatible with the new WordPress update. You can certainly try updating the theme however, it may be best to contact the theme developer. Theme developers are eager to get their themes updated to use with 3.3

Also, keep in mind, it’s impolite to interrupt another users thread with your own question. You’ll get a better response if you start you own thread.

    Hi kinabuch,fonglh & Tim S

Firstly can I just say how sorry I am for interupting your thread kinabuch, I’m new to all this and only joined the website yesterday. I did a search about how long it takes to do an update and this came up. The posts were 10 months ago and I didn’t realise I was in the middle of a personal thread – I didn’t mean to be rude.

Thanks for your responses fonglh, & Tim – I’m not sure I understand them but I’ll try and explore the problem a bit more by posting a new thread of my own (when I find out how to do that) if I can’t resolve the problem.

    Regards
