    Hi Pete,

That is a logical question so it does not sound ungrateful.

Both plugins have a similar purpose, but here is where Ultimate Fields should beat ACF:

    1. Ultimate Fields includes alternatives of three of the Premium add-ons for ACF (https://www.advancedcustomfields.com/add-ons/) in the free version. The Repeater field of Ultimate Fields includes th functionality of the Repeater and Flexible Content fields of ACF. The options page comes included too.

    2. Ultimate Fields has multilingual fields. If you combine it with qTranslate, it’s the only tool that would actually let you create a multilingual theme without making the user struggle with it.

    3. Most of the content added is accessible through a single shortcode and there is even extra processing. An image field will save the image’s ID, but will output a full image through the shortcode.

    4. Combined with the premium version (will be available soon), you will have more fields and more container types than Advanced Custom Fields for less cost.

    5. There are a lot small things like tabs & etc.

    6. You don’t need to use advanced functions to retrieve values. All of them are stored in the WordPress way.

There is one other factor: Which feels better to you. I personally prefer doing stuff through code and Ultimate Fields has a very robust way of doing that.

I hope this clears the picture for you. If yes, please mark the topic as resolved.

    Thanks for your great work!

Sounds great, I’ll bite. Could you probably reveal a bit more of the pro version, like what kind of fields it offery, what the costs will be and when it becomes available?

And how about extend it with own fields? Case study: I need an upload routine outside the media context, where I can manipulate an uploaded file.

    Greetings from Germany

    Hi sixtyseven,

The fields of the premium, as listed on the plugin activation page will most probably be:

    • Icon (FontAwesome/DashIcons Font Icon)
    • Number (With a beautiful slider)
    • Tags – Extends the select when multiple items have to be selected, but they are too many to be displayed at once.
    • Image Select (The options are displayed as images and you have to click one.)
    • Google Font (Find a font by viewing it before choosing it)
    • Map (Easily pick the location of everything)
    • Header Script, Footer Scripts (automatically hooked to output scripts like Google Analytics).
    • Image
    • Audio (Includes a player in the preview)
    • Gallery (Uses the WP gallery and you can see the images after they are selected. Useful for ex. for image-only fields.)
    • Color
    • Select Sidebar (Not just select, you can create sidebars too. The created sidebars will be automatically registered and ready for use with dynamic_sidebar )
    • Date
    • Time

It will also provide some more containers:

    • Term Meta: Add fields to any taxonomy you want to including categories, tags, etc.
    • User Meta: Add fields to user profiles.
    • Widgets: You could even create custom widgets, where you can use all fields that are available for any other container.
    • Box-less Post Meta: Display the fields like they were meant to be there, not just some additional information.

And of course the layout field. It will be similar to the repeater, but it will allow multiple elements on the same row, similar to a page builder.

I plan to be fully ready with it within a month and release it with a base price less than $50. During that time I might think of additional fields or functionality to add, but I will mostly be preparing it’s site and documentation.

As for extending it, it should be relatively easy. Here is an example for an email field:

    Any other questions are welcome.

Just installed it on a test blog and fiddling around with it. If you don’t mind, I report some issues in a separate thread.

Love your plugin so far, compared to ACF ?? If you are interested, I’d gladly help you out with german language files.

Sixtyseven, I’m glad that you like it.

When I get to it later, I will fix the issues from the other thread.

As for the translations, I will be glad if you do it. If I am not wrong, this could happen here too. When I fix the options, I will fiddle with it and configure it.

    Best Regard, Rado
