How is GPS data handled in image uploads?

  • Images I upload have GPS info in them. If I put them in a post, then go to the post and then “Save Image As…” the downloaded image does not appear to have GPS info anymore.

    When is that info stripped out?

    GPS data are stored in EXIF attributes of image.

    If you want to keep them – you need PHP Imagick extension enabled in your PHP configuration, while image is processed, ImageMagick does keep EXIF.

    If you have only GD extension, it will strip EXIF.
