Any website and not just WordPress can be hacked if not secured properly. Web Hosting providers also provide some features to protect the server from external attacks. Do have a word with them too about protecting the environment in which WordPress is hosted and not security for WordPress.

There are some additional measures you can take yourself. See HardeningWordPress. FWIW, WordPress itself is very secure. The problem arises from certain plugins and themes that are not so secure. A site’s security is only as good as the weakest code.

Many times , I have seen Akismet plugin install default by WordPress.i never use it, actually, I thought it’s an unnecessary plugin.Thanks i got new idea.
