Are you trying to have Google add a separator and site title automatically, or configure this in the plugin?

Also, whereas Google typically uses the title from the metadata for indexing, this is not always the case. Google will sometimes modify the title of the URL as it sees fit, as well as sometimes adding the brand or sitename to the end of your title. This is not due to the plugin not functioning as expected, but rather is due to Google modifying the Title it indexes as it’s algorithm has concluded that there is a better version to index.

We also have additional information on this topic available at the following links: https://yoast.com/google-page-title/ and https://kb.yoast.com/kb/google-shows-different-titles-for-my-site/. Please refer to these articles as the include recommendations for crafting a page title which will help increase the likelihood that Google will use the title you specified instead of modifying your page’s title as it sees fit.

The Yoast SEO plugin has the ability to control the title settings through the use of the title template settings in SEO>Search Appearance. If you do not input a value into the ‘SEO Title’ field of the Yoast metabox, the plugin will default to the title templates. This way a meaningful, appropriate title is still generated for the page even without any additional customization. We also have additional information on using the title template variables as well as a full list of which variables are available for use at the following link: https://kb.yoast.com/kb/yoast-wordpress-seo-titles-metas-template-variables/

For example, you can use a combination of text and template variables for the title settings. For example, you could use ‘%%sitename%% %%sep%% Hello World’ and this would output the variables for the sitename, followed by a separator, and then the text ‘Hello World’.
