It looks like there’s some overlapping functionality here, while each also offers some of their own bits. It’d be great to have some kind of guide explaining the differences, whether or not you need both, etc. For simplicity, seems like there should be a firm distinction between the two or a combining of them.

Can I get the quick version of the differences?

  • I’m not 100% positive… but I believe the ‘Official Facebook Pixel’ plugin is for pages. This one is specific to WooCommerce.

@splaquet the other plugin says it also supports e-commerce events. So why would anyone use this one when the other does it all?

I assume for the functionality that exposes your catalog to Facebook for ads and such. But then why not just put that in the other plugin and only have one plugin?

    Hi @eclev91 and @splaquet,

Thanks for reaching out. Happy to help you with this!

While the Official Facebook Pixel plugin does provide a bit of overlap with the Facebook for WooCommerce plugin, there are a couple of differences – the main one being that this plugin will sync your WooCommerce products to Facebook, allowing you to sell your products through your Facebook page’s shop.

The Facebook for WooCommerce plugin also (optionally) adds a Messenger chat feature to your site, so you can communicate using Facebook Messenger with your site visitors.

Does that help answer your questions? Please let us know if you have any others!

    Cheers!

Yeah that’s kind of what I figured. Begs the question, why not just one plugin with toggle-able features? Especially since both have Automattic and Facebook’s names on them.

    Hey @eclev91,

I’m so sorry about the delay here. We didn’t get notified of your latest question for some reason.

The WooCommerce for Facebook plugin adds on additional WooCommerce-specific features that wouldn’t be used by all sites if they aren’t using WooCommerce. This allows site owners to choose whether they want to run one or both of these plugins based on their current needs without adding unnecessary bloat to their sites.

I’m going to mark this topic as resolved. If you’re still experiencing issues please take a look at our documentation for more information and create a new thread if you have further questions.

    Thanks,
    Tamara ??
