Most of the products in our client’s store are in multiple categories, but the feed manager plugin seems to be picking one of those at random to use for the Google “Product Type” field.

Would you be able to let us know how the plugin decides what category it uses for the “Product Type” field please (or if there is a way to manually control/override it)?

I’ll put our settings below just incase there are any issues there too:
Under the “Optional Attributes” we have the “product_type” option enabled and that links to “Product Category String”. This is then set to “all products”.

    Hi @karenflavel01,

If you’re using the “Yoast SEO” plugin you can select “Primary” categories for each products. Our plugin will then use this primary categorie for the category selection in the feed, so that category should be in the “Product Category String”

Let me know if that helped.

    Hi Michael,

We are using Yoast SEO, but the feed doesn’t appear to use the primary category correctly (unless there is an additional setting somewhere that we need to activate).

This product (https://www.storefittingsdirect.co.uk/product/traffic-mirror-sign-post-galvanised-with-top-cap/) has the primary category set to “Traffic Mirrors”, but on the product feed it’s saying “Queue Management > Queue Merchandising Accessories”.

Do you have any idea why that might be?

Yes, I checked and see that it’s not working correctly.

I have to make a patch for that. That could take a few day’s but I will report back when I have the patch ready and tested.

Great, thank you for your help Michael! ??

    @karenflavel01,

Are you using the free version of our plugin or any of our premiums?

Hi Michael, i’m not entirely sure as it’s been on the website for quite some time. Is there an easy way to tell if it’s the free or paid version?

    (@michel-jongbloed)

If you open the Plugins page on your WordPress account, what is the version of our plugin? If it’s 1.40 or something close to that, it’s a free version. If it’s 2.30 or something close to that, it’s a Premium version.

If you have a premium version, check if you have a “Feed Manager -> Manage Channels” page, where you can add other channels besides Google.

Let me know if that plugin page exists.

    (@karenflavel01)

It says version 2.30. I don’t have a manage channels page, but there is a Feed Manager -> Feed Manager page that lists out the existing feeds.

    Ok, great.

In that case please download a patch from here: https://www.dropbox.com/s/bwfjskz57vagq8b/class-wppfm-taxonomies.php?dl=0

Then, to install it please take the following steps:

    1) Make sure you’re running the 2.30.0 version of our plugin
    2) Deactivate (do NOT delete it) the plugin on your Plugins page
    3) Download the .php file from the link
    4) Open the ‘wp-content/plugins/wp-product-feed-manager/includes/data’ folder on your server
    5) Make a backup of the class-wppfm-taxonomies.php file in that folder.
    6) Next delete that file from the folder and replace it by the downloaded .php file
    7) Then reactivate the plugin on your Plugins page

Then try if the patch has solved the issue for you and let me know the results. After you confirmed it works, we will implement the patch in our development branch.

Should you encounter any issues with the patch, just restore the backup file you made in step 5 and all should be good again.

    Hi Michel,

Sorry for taking so long to get back to you, i’ve had a chance to implement this today and it’s worked perfectly. Once I regenerated the feed the product data is now using the primary category.

Thank you so much for you help!

    Great, thanks for the update.

I’ll implement the patch in our next version.

    Have a nice day!

Hi, I have the same problem v 2.31.1. It only occurs in a few products.

    Hi @mateuszsurma,

And you’re sure these few products have a primary category selected in the products settings?
