Does/How the Autoptimize optimizes images quaility/size

Hi,
So I’m asking to know if I should optimize the images with the plugin.. and if yes which method uses? in order to compare it to Tinypng.. i also wonder because there’s only an image that gtmetrix reports as requiring more optimization.Optimize the following images to reduce their size by 46.6KiB (19% reduction).
