    Hi,

In the description you say that wp-staging doesn’t require a second database…
So when wp-staging copy the production DB, how does it work?
Does it create a new table in the production DB and dumpt all the content in it?

Can wp-staging be use to test wp core update?

    Thank you
    Fred

  • Hi trinitech,

this plugin lets you specify a name for your staging environment and then it adds that name as a prefix for all the new database tables, sort of like WP Multisite works.

    Example:

Your current DB prefix is: triniwp_
Your staging site name is: dev1
Your new tables are called: dev1.triniwp_

The url’s for dev1 are automatically updated and all files are moved to the new (dev1) directory so yes, you can test core updates on it.

If you delete the staging site, it’ll show you what tables are going to be removed, which are the ones with the respective staging site’s prefix.

Please mind that I didn’t create the plugin, this only what I understand from using it.
