I was working with Elementor on a page that I did not yet want to publish, so I saved a draft. When I come back to WordPress, I do not see a draft for the page listed on the Pages tab. Where do I find the draft or how do I recall it so that I can continue my work and then Publish the page?

BTW, I did read the manual section on saving a draft but I couldn’t find anything on recalling one. I hope I’m not blind!

    Thanks for your help.

  • Hi,

If you actually saved the draft, you should see it on the “all pages” list. Above, you should see “drafts” to go to all the drafts. See my screenshot: https://app.screencast.com/PB5sNzdMmIwah

If you do not see it, I assume you did not actually save the draft or something went wrong while saving.
Have you looked in trash, just in case it ended up in there?

    TIP:
Always take a full backup after doing some work, so you can revert if needed.

    Kind regards,
    Annie

Well this is interesting. Here is what I see on my All Pages page:

    https://cjsa.com/misc/elementor_01.png

Notice that no drafts are shown, either at the top, or for the Dentist page which is what I saved as a draft. However, when I pick Edit with Elementor for that page, it loads with an overlay note that says (approximately), “This is just a draft. Play around and then Publish when done.” So my work was there, but it was not apparent from the main screens. This is with Elementor 3.23.2 on WordPress 6.2.6.

This is fine now that i know what’s happening, but does this seem like proper operations to you?

Thanks for the reply. Very much appreciated.

    Hi,

    Hmmm, not sure.

Did you only save it in the “edit with Elementor” or did you return to the default page and saved it as a draft in “the WordPress way”?

Within Elementor I clicked the up-arrow at the Update button and selected “Save Draft.” After this I selected Exit from the pull-down menu. I’ve always assumed that selecting Exit and returning to WordPress without saving would cause all my changes to be lost so I couldn’t see how I would save a draft from WP while editing in Elementor. Before using Elementor, I used to save drafts as you describe, but not since installing this plug-in. If, after making changes in Elementor and then Exiting, will the changes be preserved or will they be immediately lost?

Clearly there is something important that I’m not understanding about how Elementor works with WP.

There also appears to be only one Save Draft option withing Elementor. Is there a way to save more than one so that various changes can be tried and saved, allowing one or the other to be picked later and then Updated to the real world?

    Hi,

    Thanks for elaborating!

In Elementor there is the option of “history” that lets you go back to previous work, see:
    https://elementor.com/help/revision-history-undo-and-redo/

When you update in Elementor editing screen, your work will be saved.
You can then go to “exit” from within Elementor editing screen.
After that, you will get the normal WordPress screen, where you can save as a draft.

Regarding saving drafts in Elementor itself, you might find this video interesting:https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tOJAIryh7CE&ab_channel=Elementor

    Hi there,

    Thank you for contacting us.

It can be a bit confusing if you don’t see your draft listed. Here’s how you can locate your draft in Elementor and WordPress:

    1. Check the Drafts Section in WordPress:
      • Go to your WordPress dashboard.
      • Navigate to Pages > All Pages.
      • At the top of the page, you should see filter links such as “All”, “Published”, “Drafts”, etc.
      • Click on the “Drafts” link to filter and display only the draft pages.
    2. Using the Elementor Editor:
fort this you will need to find the page you have draft > click edit with elmentor > and then follow our documentiaont about revision and history
      https://elementor.com/help/revision-history-undo-and-redo/
    3. Search for the Page:
      • Sometimes drafts can be harder to find if there are many pages. Use the search function in the Pages > All Pages section to search by the title of your draft.
    4. Direct URL Access:
      • If you have the URL of the draft (which might be in your browser history), you can try accessing it directly. The URL typically looks like yourwebsite.com/wp-admin/post.php?post=<post_id>&action=elementor.

If you’ve followed these steps and still can’t find your draft, it might be worth checking your WordPress trash to ensure it hasn’t been accidentally deleted. If it’s there, you can restore it and continue editing.

    Hope this helps.

    Kind regards,
