in v1.5,
Unless I’m mistaken, on the “Write” page.. there is an option for “Post Password” near the top of the page… to the left of the list of categories.

The option for setting a Post Password is on the Advanced Post Editing section – for more info see the “Write Post SubPanel” article in the codex.
