I have hundreds of sites that come and go each semester, I delete sites via SuperAdmin->Sites all the time, yet the blogs.dir keeps swelling to the crack of doom.

What do you multsite gurus do to purge unnecessary blogs.dir folders? Is manually checking blog_ids and deleting via ftp/cpanel the best way to go?

Using a plugin to delete anything sounds scary. Looking for advice, assurance

  • Crap, it’s not nuking the associated uploads folders?

Mine don’t, don’t tell me it’s just me.

Check and see if there is anything under the blog_id directory (ex. blogs.dir/372) for that site. If those folders are empty, then it’s working as coded and deleting everything but the {blog_id} directory.

You can use the delete_blog hook to remove that folder. (Although that might be worth a trac ticket & a patch.)

Indeed, contents of the folders are gone, but the folders remain.

    No problems, then.

    *whew*

I would think that would be an issue actually because of the 32k (or less) directory limit with many *NIX based servers.

If the directory is still there after the files are gone, that would be an issue. It really should be deleted.

Although it’s not as big of an issue as leaving the files.
