How do you insert line break at top of a post?

I am trying to get some space at the top of post, between the post header information and the actual content of post. Im sure I could edit this in the stylesheet, but shouldnt I be able to just insert an html linebreak and accomplish same thing?

BTW, I have tried just inserting <br/> at top of the post and still there is no space! What gives??! Please help.
