How do you go about creating a site like Sortfolio using WordPress?

Hi everyone,

First time poster and newbie when it comes to WordPress.

I’m looking to create a website similar to Sortfolio using WordPress but I’m not sure what themes, plugins or functionalities I need to get started.

I’ve thought about hiring somebody to create the site for me but I’d rather learn to do it myself. The problem is, I don’t know how to code and my exposure to WordPress is minimal, but I’m willing to learn.

I know it’s a big project so the main thing I’m concerned with right now is how to allow users to sign up (enter contact info, descriptions, upload pictures etc) and then have their profile show up on my main page, along with other profiles–just like Sortfolio? I essentially want to create a directory of user-submitted profiles in a grid format.

If somebody could give me some direction as to what I would need to get started, I’d really appreciate it.
