• Great theme – except the header on inside pages is not displaying very well as the cropping of the image is very inappropriate.

To be honest – I’m not a programmer, I know a little css and html. I’ve been going through the css file to try and figure out how to re-position the header image for inside page – but not finding anything.

A GREAT feature for the next release would be either being able to choose a different image for non front page headers, being able to turn off non front page headers or at least be able to adjust the position so the cropping is more appropriate.

In the mean time – if there’s some code I can use in the Additional CSS panel to re-position that image, I would really appreciate it.

    Hi @guitarpix,

Can you let us know at which screen size the cropping becomes unsuitable? Did you mean for the front page and other types of pages? Can you also tell us what you expect to happen?

Hi – front page is great, it’s the other pages and posts, and every page size I’ve tried the header image gets cropped badly.

As for what I expect to happen, basically I’d need the ability to have a different crop on the other page’s header image, or a different image, than is being automatically applied.

I’m sorry to hear that. I want to provide you a solution to that for now, but I won’t be able to unless I know the specifics of the above questions. For example, “At desktop I want the header image to be as tall as the Homepage header image” or “At mobile I want the header image not to crop to the center”.

Sorry I haven’t been able to communicate clearly enough.

What I’d like is to re-position the image inside the header on ‘other pages’ so that the way the image is cropped is more appropriate.

I don’t necessarily need to change the size of the header image, just how the image is positioned in relation to it. Right now it is centered vertically – where I may need it 50 or 60 pixels further down than that, or perhaps up.

Perhaps if you go to the site you’ll see exactly what I’m talking about.

Are you sure you want to just re-position the crop? I may have misread, but I thought you might want to make the image larger.

    Thread Starter GuitarPix

    (@guitarpix)

It might make sense to be be able to make the image slightly larger, but I don’t really like having larger headers on inside pages. Mostly being able to re-position the image inside the header should be enough to get a reasonable crop.

Although the best solution would probably be another image altogether or – for the time being – being able to turn off the header image on inside pages.

I had someone suggest to turn off the header image on the pages not the front page before and a foresight of this is that you now have white text on a white background and maybe a lot of additional whitespace.
How would you like to treat that?

If you’re making this a theme feature – it would be nice in that case to make the colour of the text a user choice – which would be good as well if someone uploads a light coloured image as well.

Otherwise dark grey to match the ‘dark’ choice in the theme – which could also be affected by the user choice of background colour.

That at least would be my suggestion.

BTW – I’ve put in some custom css to make the not front page banners a little bigger.

Not my first choice as it pushes the text below the bottom edge of the page. On review, my first choice would be the smaller banner and a separately chosen image.

Ah, unfortunately I don’t contribute to the code of Twenty Seventeen and I’m not part of their team. I think I can help you out with some short-term fixes for this until the developers decide to implement it. Is that okay?

Andrew – thanks for the follow up – I think for the moment I’ve done enough damage to it ;-D

I’ll wait to see what the team implements with the next version.
