• Weird. I have been running WP for a while now (https://lerner.net) and I asked my sister, “are you getting notifications from my blog” and she said no.

I logged in as her and couldn’t find a place to set notifications. In fact, the whole UI presented to an ordinary user when they login is bewilderingly confusing and looks like something for the admin, but without the permissions.

    I never noticed that before.

Some members post comments after I post a new blog entry, so I assumed people were getting notifications somehow.

Can somebody clarify this for me, and maybe recommend some standard setting so ordinary users see something reasonable when they login?

    Thanks!

  • WP has RSS feeds built in. For people who know how to use RSS, it’s easy to follow your site that way.

For other tweaks you may need to install some plugins.

One option is to “burn” your feed with the Feedburner website. Then put the FeedSmith plugin in your WordPress. With this you can offer a nice “Subscribe By Email” in your sidebar. People would need to sign-up once and confirm it to start receiving an email each time you post.

I agree the “backend” is very strange for newcomers with low permissions. It’s more set up for collaborators, like if you had a staff working on your site under your editor. There are probably some plugins to change the look of the Dashboard for logged in users too.

    search around here,
