• I’m really confused. I go to my site, and it says “Please upgrade to 2.6.1” I click on the link, and all I can do is download and install. What’s up with that? I don’t want to install new – I want to upgrade?

Facts on the ground: I have WordPress through Cpanel. For some reason – the upgrade is not being prompted through cpanel, which suggests that I installed separately (I don’t really remember doing so, but it’s possible). SO – what now?

  • The instructions for upgrading are in the package you downloaded in the readme file.

Thanks! OK – so I extracted the files and found the readme file. it says this:

Delete your old WP files, saving ones you’ve modified.
    Upload the new files.

Um… what do we mean, delete my old WP files saving ones I’ve modified? So far as I know, the only old WP files I have are the ones that comprise my blog….

It means exactly what it says. Delete ALL WP files except ones you’ve modified, put your database info in the new wp-config, upload everything, go to https://www.yoursite.com/wp-admin/upgrade.php and follow the instructions.

Do you mean you think your posts are stored in the WP files? If you do, they aren’t. Your posts are stored in your database. The WP files run the program.

Don’t delete the wp-config is my advice and leave the wp-content folder alone too.
