• I have been building a website over the last few months and have used the Magazine Basic theme. My website was almost finished and after
I edited a page today in the update section it told me there was a newer version available so I clicked to update and its all gone wrong! Everything I had done has been lost – all the side bar content and layout has gone and even some of the main content has totally been lost. All the footer and header layout has also gone as well.

I need to be able to go back to the layout I had this morning before I did the update.

What is the easiest way for my to do this as I have lost a lot of work and I am panicking now.

MAny thanks in advance for any assistance.

Morning Esmi – I did have to set them up – I created a custom menu for the top items and then I have two sidebars left and right with the main content in the middle – it is wierd that everything on the first side bar (left one) came across to the child theme but both the two text widgets i had in both sidebars in the right were empty.

I have recreated them now in the child and its all as it was in the adult.

Any ideas why it didnt all copy across and do I need to do anything else?

Apart from that little glitch in the child theme – do you think I am good to go on now using this one as my main theme?

A quick update – all seems to be well now with the child theme for both my sites but I do have a problem and I wonder if you can help I have started another thread but not really getting an answer.

in my newest site https://www.newlifecorporation.com the footer extends the whole width of my screen and I only want it to be the same width as the page.

I have tried all sorts to make this happen I am in the process of building a new site https://www.newlifecorporation.com and I am struggling cannot adjust the width of the footer to be the same width as the pages.

I have worked out how to adjust the width and height of the footer and how to arrange the text and add links to pages within the site in stlyle.css but I cannot figure out how to have the footer the same width as the page.

I am sure this is not difficult but I cannot figure it out and despite much research I cannot find the answer. I have it exactly as I want it in my first site https://www.propertybuyersharlow.co.uk but I cannot seem to see the coding I need in the style.css of the footer .php area of that siteI am in the process of building a new site https://www.newlifecorporation.com and I am struggling cannot adjust the width of the footer to be the same width as the pages.

Also do I need to add the coding I made to the footer.php as a new footer.php in the child theme because if I update the parent then I am going to lose the changes I made.

Update – I have resolved the footer width matter – I made the width of the web site larger – I prefer that than having border so thats good so now its just sorting out how to make sure the additions I have made in the child theme actually get recognised in the oages.

at the moment I am making all the changes in the paretn theme but if I ever update this theme then I know I lose all the changes (not making that mistake again)

Can anyone please help me with this . The easy solution of course is never to update the parent theme as it seems to be stable enough but I know thats not ideal.

Any help would be massively appreciated.

    Hi Esmi,
I encountered the same problem. I actually ended up reformatting all of my columns, widgets, etc.
There are several things not working still, some of which are critical, and I don’t know how to fix:
    (1) I used to have a sign in at the top of my site, Cyclistsinternational.com, to get in, but now I see no sign in and I have no idea how to get to my dashboard. Pretty lost on this one.
    (2) the fonts are all different, and I am not even sure I like them,
    (3) all the advertising workarounds I set up are gone, which means rebuilding the way it was done, above?
    (4) after creating a great category list, I can’t seem to access any of it when posting. This is really scary, since I can’t now categorize my stories to fit the top naV bar. Boy I am really ready to ditch this entire template.
    Help!
    Jen B
