Hi, I’m using the Dara Theme and would like to know if I can shorten the number of copy lines in the Theme Options.
There are currently 10 lines of copy and I would like have 7 lines. Is there a way to maintain the paragraph styling in the theme copy?

  • Hi there,

Are you referring to the amount of text that appears for the featured pages?

Could you provide a link to a screenshot of the area you’re referring to?

    Hi, thanks for your assistance.
Here is the link to the copy I’m preferring to in the Featured pages – https://www2.xtramile.co.za/wp-content/uploads/2017/06/Screen-Shot-2017-06-01-at-11.24.33-AM.png

The easiest thing to do would be to add a custom excerpt to each page, so you can make each blurb exactly the length you want.

Edit Page kp test site WordPress

If you don’t see the Excerpt box, open the Screen Options panel at the top and make sure “Excerpts” is checked off.

If you prefer to keep the automated excerpts, you can override the default length, but it’ll require setting up a child theme and a custom function – so it’s a bit more work, but we can guide you with that if you need it. Just let us know.

    Kathryn,

Do you know why “Excerpts” would NOT be listed as an option in the Screen Options panel for my pages? (I have Jetpack installed, in case that has something to do with it.) I read that excerpts are only allowed with posts and not pages, and that there are plugins that you have to download that allow you to create custom excerpts. Do I need an additional plugin for that option to show up in my Screen Options panel?

    Thank you!

@susanhardison Dara supports excerpts on pages in addition to posts, so I’m not sure why you’re not seeing the option there. Jetpack should make no difference.

Could you provide a screenshot of your entire page edit screen, like the one I posted above, so I can have a look?

Here’s a guide on how to make a screenshot:
    https://en.support.wordpress.com/make-a-screenshot/

You can upload the screenshot – in a graphic format like JPG, PNG, or GIF – in your Media Library, and provide a link so I can see it, or upload it with a service like Cloudup, Imgur or Snaggy.

    @zoonini

Thank you for your response. Yes, that is the correct site that I’m working on. I checked, and my post edit screen does allow excerpts, but not my page edit screen.

Hopefully these screenshots will work to show you what I’m seeing on my page edit screen.

    Thank you again!

Hmm – I see what you mean! I’m able to replicate this issue with the self-hosted version of Dara. I’ll report it to our developers so they can have a look and we’ll keep you posted here.

    Hi @susanhardison!

We did a bit of digging and found there was an error in the theme causing the excerpt field not to appear on pages.

This has been fixed and we’ve submitted an updated version of the theme to www.remarpro.com (version 1.0.9). Usually there’s a bit of a delay before the updated theme is available, but once it is please update it, and it should fix this issue.

Thanks for reporting this! Just let us know if you have any questions at all about this.

Thank you! I appreciate your prompt response! I have updated the theme and now the page excerpts are working perfectly. I appreciate your help.

I’m glad that worked for you, @susanhardison — thanks for letting us know! ??
