how do I reinstall a tar.gz backup?

  • Hi, very much a newbie here who needs help. I started a blog about two weeks ago. Six days ago it kind of disappeared. When I would go to my site it would just see the “index directory”. I also couldn’t log in to my admin area.

    I have a new installation now, but none of my prior posts. Fortunately, I made a backup 2 days before the mysterious disappearance which is on my computer as a “tar.gz”.

    How do I get this into my “new” blog installation?

    I have gone to “myphpadmin” and tried updating that way. I get a long error message that ends with this:

    ERROR: C1 C2 LEN: 2 3 72239
    STR: ?

    Does anyone know what I need to do?
