I have created a special account that can only see a single web page on our private community website. The account, which belongs to the ‘realtor’ role, is intended for prospective home buyers. The web page contains links to documents that we, the community, are required to show to prospective buyers.

The ‘realtor’ role has 0 of the 199 total capabilities. The only nav menu option available to the role is “logout”. We’re using the Independent Publisher 2 theme which allows use of an image that, when clicked by a logged in user, re-directs to the home page. First, i can’t figure out where/how to control that hyperlink. In the case of accounts in the ‘realtor’ role, they are re-directed to their Profile page where they can make any change they want, including password change.

I’ve tried restricting access to the contents of both Account and User page using [um_show_content not=”Realtor”] but that doesnt seem to have any effect.

Any ideas what i might be doing wrong or missing?

    thanks for any ideas!

    Hello @davidpizota

Your question is not clear. You said “they are re-directed to their Profile page where they can make any change they want, including password change”, but there is no password change feature in profile. Please provide details. Screenshots are appreciated.

You can use user role settings to change role’s permissions and capabilities. Go to wp-admin > Ultimate Member > User Roles, find a role you need and click Edit. Change permissions and capabilities you need than save changes. See User Roles Settings.

You can use individual page restriction settings to limit access to the Account and User pages for specific roles. See Individual Post and Term content restriction settings.

Read this article if you want to use the [um_show_content] shortcode: Restrict content on a page/post to specific users community role. Note that the Role ID should be used in the roles and not attributes, not the Role Title.

1st, you answered my question – when i started using the <span style=”text-decoration: underline;”>role title</span> as you suggested, the um_show_content works just fine. So, my problem has been solved. Thank you!!!

Next, sorry for slow response, I’ve been traveling. And finally, the editable password was actually on the Account page, not the Profile page as i originally wrote (you get to Account page by clicking the ‘gear’ on the Profile page, then selecting My Account from among the dropdown options).

thank you again for your assistance!
