Setting up my first WordPress site and I know nothing about coding. I’m learning as I go.

    Anyway…

All my posts show up on my Home Page, which is fine but, it shows every single post in its full format. How do I limit how many posts are shown on the Home Page and how do I change the posts to only show the first part of the post with a “Read More” option?

When I go to the categorized page that shows similar posts it’s in the “short form” of the post with the “read more” option. Not sure why it doesn’t do that for the Home Page.

    Any help is appreciated.

    Thanks.

To show how many post display on the front(blog) page go to Settings>Reading.

To use a summary for an individual post is easy. In the visual editor, click on your post where you want the summary to end then click the “Insert More Tag” button on the top row of the toolbar and update the page. Or, if using the HTML editor simply add <!–more–> where you want the summary to end.

If you want to show a summary on all posts you need to do some file editing. The file you need to edit will vary depending on your theme so please post either a link to your site or the theme you are using.

Thank you for the response. Your directions worked. I found the “Insert More Tag” button and problem solved. Also, I’ve now got it set to 5 posts per page. The default was 10.

    Thanks again.
