How do I limit the number of posts on the home page

Is there a way I can limit the number of posts on the home page using the Nisarg theme? It doesn’t seem to take any notice of the number of posts set under settings->reading (I have set this to 5) and is showing 11 posts. I would like my home page only to show featured (sticky) posts. Is there a way around this?
