When I tried logging into my admin panel/Dashboard yesterday I got this error:

Does anyone have an idea how to fix this? I didn’t do anything to cause this error that I know of. I did some searching, but the solutions they give have been confusing and don’t seem to apply to me. One fix says to go into a php.ini file, but I can’t find the file anywhere. Any help with this would be much appreciated!

    Thanks,
    Tom

  • Might be related to a recent server upgrade, or php configuration error in cPanel. Contact your host and ask them what they can tell you about the SourceGuardian error.

Okay, so I contacted my host through support and they replied with this:

That seems to be a programming issue with the site, unfortunately, I do not have the expertise nor the tools to troubleshoot this issue. You would need to contact a web developer regarding this issue. I apologize for the inconvenience.

So, I am guessing this is on my end? I really have little to no knowledge on programming/coding etc. It would be great if someone could assist me further with this.

    Thank you,
    Tom

I am receiving a similar error out of the blue.
What host are you using? I am using arvixe.

It looks like you have a bad widget in your theme. Do you have any widget areas where you entered any custom HTML or PHP?

EDIT: What happens if you switch to the default theme?

I think it is related to SourceGuardian encrypted php. Are you using SourceGuardian encorder?

@ldsfunaz – My host is HostGator.

@josh – I believe the only widget I have is a Amazon astore and I got the code from Amazon. Am I able to remove it through my cPanel? I have never tried doing that. Also, am I able to switch themes through the cPanel too? As I said I can’t log into my admin area do to the error and I thought themes were only changed through there. Sorry for my ignorance.

@krishna – I really have no idea. I have never heard of SourceGuardian before. When I was looking for what the problem could be I couldn’t find anything that said SourceGuardian in my files. Very strange.

Thanks to everyone who replied BTW.

    Check your php.ini
Possibly a SourceGuardian loader might be inserted there. If you find it there, and if you did not inject it there for security purposes, it can be a clearly a case of hacking into your site.

Secondly, your error code clearly shows the presence of the script. Your host correctly replied to you because it is a premium coding and decoding tool that is used for added security. But possibly it can be used for hacking too.

Please check and report. I will tell you the next course immediately.

I checked the php.ini and all it displays is the number “1”. I am not sure if I am looking in the right spot though. Could you clarify where I should be looking?

Thank you so much for the help.

What you can do is as follows (Try it):
    1. Go to Hostgator and CLICK on LIVE CHAT
    2. Type your problems. They are generally able to locate the problem and help you.
    3. Here is the link to the FAQs of the script: Sourceguardian.com/php_compiler_faqs.html
    4. Tell them that you feel that there is a possibility of the script being present in your php.ini file or elsewhere.
    5. They may ask you if they can remove it (if they locate it). Tell them ‘yes, remove’.
I think this should solve your problem. If not you have to reinstall a fresh copy of WordPress (Read the instructions, if you do not know).

As it is there is nothing to worry as your site contents are OK, apparently, it seems. I checked up now.

In any case, before doing anything, backup your database. I hope you know how to do it.

The problem is resolved now, it seems. The code is removed and the site runs perfectly fine. However, it will be nice to know how TMC33 resolved it.

I did as you said and contacted them through Live Chat. I’m really not sure what they did on their end though. All I know is:

    1. The the theme was set back to default and I had to delete my premium theme and reinstall it.

    2. My Amazon astore was removed and I will have to put it back up on my webpage.

I was going to ask what caused the problem but the person closed the chat before I could. If you have any insight on what they did that would be great to know. It would help for future reference and for anyone else who runs into this problem.

Thank you for all the help Krishna. I’m glad it could be resolved. Now I can finally start working on my site again. ??

    Thanks,
    Tom

    @tom
Be happy that it was immediately resolved. Otherwise it could have wiped out your site. I resolved a few problems like this recently. The exact reason can be known only by the support staff of your host to whom you talked and helped you. If you asked before they closed, they would have told you.

It is not right to post a guess here, though I can figure out. Don’t worry, if you happen to face any problems further, post it at this forum and you will get all possible support.

I more than happy they fixed it. So no worries there. Thanks for the help.
