How Do I Easily Change The Footer In The 2016 Theme

While I love WordPress, I recently just switched to the 2016 theme from another theme that wasn’t compatible anymore with Version 4.7. Unfortunately, the availability of changing options on the theme seems rather limited. ?? I would like to remove the Proudly Powered By WordPress link, but I don’t understand how to really use WordPress. Is there an easy way to do this. I did at first try to edit the css with two lines, but that didn’t remove it and I also saw that this wasn’t recommended. So does anyone have any suggestions on how a person with little to now understanding of WordPress can easily remove that line at the bottom footer since there are no footer options on the theme to change in the appearance area?
