I use Wordfence on my WP-site.

Now I have installed the Search Regex plugin in order to do some global changes to my Posts (and Pages), but Search Regex cannot find and replace anything seemingly because Wordfence is blocking it.

How can I unblock Search Regex in Wordfence?

The page I need help with: [log in to see the link]

Hi @hero2, thanks for your question!

It sounds like the firewall is potentially hitting some false-positives for some of the actions the plugin takes when performing a search. I would try a period of time in Learning Mode.

From the Wordfence Dashboard click on Manage WAF. Then you will see Basic Firewall Options > Web Application Firewall Status. Change the option to Learning Mode. Now trigger the actions/pages that were causing issues. This will help Wordfence learn that these actions are normal and it will allow them in the future. After you have finished performing the actions, switch the WAF from Learning Mode back to Enabled and Protecting. Now test to see if these actions work correctly.

If that doesn’t work, I would expect these blocks and the reason for them to show in your Live Traffic feed. You could try checking this immediately after seeing the block mesage in your browser, just to see whether you’re able to click on the Live Traffic entry to expand it, and select the “ADD PARAM TO FIREWALL ALLOWLIST” button.

Let me know how you get on!
    Peter.

Thank you very much for your reply!

It turns out that the string I wanted to search and replace on my website cannot be search, even by the Search Regex plugin… So the ‘Learning mode’ didn’t make any difference.

I was searching for a <div …> tag, because it is always found just before the <p> paragraph I wanted to delete – and who’s content is different on each page…

So I will probably have to edit each page/post manually…

I gave up on the Search Regex plugin and edited every post manually…

The problems were not related to Wordfence. Sorry for bothering you. ??
