• When I just delete the theme from FTP, there is still parts remaining. When I reinstall, it adds a number at the end (ex. Theme1) This seems to screw up the database. I have uninstalled and reinstalled WP, but nothing seems to work. How do I start ALL over or delete all theme files? Can I delete the entire contents of the site’s folder. It is a brand new site, so there is no loss of content. The theme si broken and I want to start completely from scratch.

  • Before you reinstalled WP, did you get rid of all the tables in the database first?

I’d install a different theme (e.g. twenty ten or whatever) if you don’t have an alternative to the broken one installed. Once that’s done, I’d activate the new theme and then delete the offending one by deleting its folder.

You’ve got to have at least one theme active otherwise WP doesn’t know what to display. That’s my understanding, anyway.

Another way of clearing the theme would be to just delete all the style rules in its style.css file (but remember to keep the opening comments, otherwise it’s not a proper theme and WP won’t recognise it).

I hope at least some of this helps. It’s a bit of a disorganised post. Sorry.

    Cheers
