how do I combine a non wordpress website host, with wordpress blogging software

  • I’d like to use open source blogging software to create a blog, using my existing domain, where my host doesn’t have blogging software, and where I can’t install new software. For example, I’d like to create https://scottmacleod.com/blog

    Does your software require installation on the same server as my host?

    I wonder if you could please tell me how I might use my existing domain name in the blog address, with open source software which isn’t installed on my web site host’s servers? Is it possible to use your wordpress’s blog software on wordpress’s servers?

    What would be the simplest and easiest way to do what I plan to do? (I haven’t worked with servers very much, nor do I have one).

    Yes you do, or you wouldnt have a host.

    Assuming your host supports the minimum requirements:

    If you can ftp files, you can use wordpress. If you cant ftp files, you still might be able to use wordpress as a good deal of hosts have fantastico available which, these days, includes a wordpress install.

    Youre overthinking things.

    1. You upload files to a folder named blog on your website.
    2. you browse to where the install.php is on your website
    3. You run through the install
    …
    4. your done.

    Thanks . . . I’ll check it out. I don’t have a dedicated server at my host, only a shared server.

    I can ftp to it.

    I’ll follow the steps you suggest.

    Don’t forget the database – he needs that, as well ??
