How do I change the address of a webpage but still have it so that when a tab is selected on the homepage, the user can go to the page with the new address?

    Thank you

  • I’m sorry, but I’m confused.
What address are you using, what do you want it changed to and what tabs?
Can you provide a link to your site and more detailed info?

It’s a website with a lot of tabs, like at the top of the homepage, where you click, to go to a specific page. We have a general index.html or homepage, and then readers can go to different parts of the website by hitting a tab. The tabs are for “petition,” “Get the Facts,” “Testimnials.” The reader clicks on the tab to get to the webpage. So, for the webpage whose address I want to change everyday, it’s https://www.sample.com/petition. I want to change the address location every day to avoid robo-spam. So you could click the petition tab but get to for example https://www.sample.com/petition2000. The next day would change it to https://www.sample.com/petition4. However the reader doesn’t see that, they just see the petition tab and when they click it, the go to the new address for the petition.

I’m reluctant to post the website http on a public forum. If you email me, I’ll send it to you privately.

    thank you!

You have to edit that page from WordPress, to change the permalink, it’s right under the post Title input.

And depending on how the menu items are added (if the menu item is a page, then don’t have to do anything, but if it’s a custom link, then you have to edit it), you can change them at

Admin Panel > Appearance > Menu

Thank you for very much! I think it’s a custom-page in 2 parts so if I changed the top portion, the bottom portion wouldn’t necessarily come. That bottom portion would also have to be edited each time I changed addresses?

There are basically 2 ways to add a menu item, if it’s a page, then you just need to add the one that is displayed on the left page/post block widget list, it looks like this:

    https://en.support.files.wordpress.com/2010/06/menu_pages.png

If you can see for the post block, click the “Screen Options” pull down tab at the top of your screen, click the “Blocks” to make it appear.

Then you don’t have to edit the menu anymore, because the URL address will be updated automatically.

This is the edit screen for that particular page:

Please share this petition with others that care, we CAN save the bridge and thank you for your support!

Could I just in the “edit” screen, at Permalink, change the address from https://www.sample\bridge to https://www.sample\bridge2000? Then the user, when coming to the site, could click Bridge as one of the menu items (or tabs) from the homepage and go to the Bridge webpage, but the address of the webpage is Bridge2000?

    Thank you.

You could install the WordPress SEO plugin by Yoast and use the built in redirect on the post/page edit screen under Advanced.

If you change the permalink, the original link may be broken.

If you simply want to change the tab name or address the tab links too, you can do that in the menu settings.

thank you. How do I change the address tied to a tab in MENU settings?

Go to Appearance > Menu’s and expand the active menu item so the url field is visible then change it

do you really want your email address displayed as a username?
