I need to change a permalink and do not know how. I have two pages – one is now my main landing page at https://waltdisneyworld.eguidesintl.com/
the other was the main landing page in the past and I want to go back to it again. It is accessible at https://waltdisneyworld.eguidesintl.com/index/

This is not really my site – I did not create it – I did not make these changes in the first place. I am trying to rebuild the site back to what it was before they tried to make it a pay membership site.

I have seen a lot of topics about changing the setting of permalinks – I don’t want to do that – I just want to change these two pages. My QuickEdit does not appear to be working and for at least the second site – the one I want to go too – there appears to be an edit option for the permalink on the page screen but again it doesn’t do anything when I click it. I have looked in my database and I have not been able to find anything resembling permalinks in my database to change manually.

Can someone please tell me how to make my second page my main landing page again? For all I know I am looking in the wrong place – it may not involve permalinks at all.

    Thanks

    Terry

  • It a little confusing to do that. In case you haven’t tried this already:
You’re editing your Page. Near the title you have the Edit button for the permalink. You click that, and change the part that’s editable.

If you click “Update” over on the right to save the page now, you will lose your edit. You have to click “OK” right next to your edit first, and then click “Update”, this should save it.

You can also Edit, blank out the editable part, click OK, and click Update. This will generate a new permalink. This is what I do when I actually change the title and want the permalink to match it.

btw, I never use Quick Edit, so I can’t comment on that.

    Hope that helps.

That is my problem. When I click the ‘edit’ nothing happens. There is nothing I can edit.

Not only that – but apparently some how in my poking around I have messed up something. Now most of my links are not working. The main pages still seem to work but most of the links from the main pages are now getting 404 errors.

This seems to be a Theme related issue. If I use the default theme the links still work. Anyone have any idea what I changed. What ever it was I must have done it by mistake. I don’t remember changing anything.

Wow, in that case, it sounds like something deeper is wrong. Yes, maybe theme-related, or Javascript-related, or who knows. I’m guessing “geek will be required”.

With bad links from main pages, I’d take a look at permalink settings and also Blog and Wordress URL settings in admin as well.

    good luck, D

I figured out how to point to the old main page. I used phpMyAdmin to edit my database, in the wp_options table I changed ‘page_on_front’ value from the new page number back to the old page number. Now I have the correct page displaying again. It had nothing to do with permalinks – oh – I still have issues with them not working but that is another problem.
