• I had a developer put on five links on my website. One of my website links is AnAnuthorsThoughts which is supposed to link to https://www.AnAuthorsThoughts.com but it doesn’t.

Is there a simple way for me to redirect this link? I know nothing about HTML and am a low-tech guy.

  • Where is the link posted? Do you want to remove it, or want that the link should work? Is it a dead link now?

Can you post the link to the page where it appears?

The link is on already on my webpage (having been put there by my developer who is not available) but it is not directed to the proper site. I just want to change it from where it’s going now to where it should be going. Is there an easy way for me to do this?

If it is not going where it should go, probably it is a dead link. What happens when you click on that?

Where are those 5 links placed? In a post/page? In the sidebar? Could you provide the URL for your site so we can check?

The URL is https://www.TomMach.com I have five links on that site. The last link is named AnAunthorsThoughts When you click on it, it directs you to a site that is not correct. It should link to the following site: https://www.AnAuthorsThoughts.com

    Can you help me?

Are you using a widget for those links? Please, check in your dashboard under Appearance-Widgets.

That looks like it’s a widget in the sidebar – look under
    Appearance -> Widgets

Or it might be under Links Manager?

Seems like it’s the Social Media widget
Here are the screenshots. Browse the plugin options for the wrong link and fix it.

The last link is named AnAunthorsThoughts When you click on it, it directs you to a site that is not correct.

The link that you refer to is www.AnAuthorsThoughts.com. It now redirects to https://www.weebly.com/weebly/main.php. That means your web developer has setup the redirect or the said site now redirects to the second link. If you do not want it, why not delete it?
As mentioned above, the links must be in a text widget or Links Manager.

Here’s the problem. Yes, the web developer (who is not now available to me) had, as you say, directed it to https://www.weebly.com/weebly/main.php instead of to https://www.AnAuthorsThoughts.com Since I know nothing about putting up a link, I’m afraid of cancelling this one because I wouldn’t know what to do next.

Sorry for my low-tech experience, but I have a hard time learning computer programming. Is there a simple, step-by-step solution to this problem that I can follow to make this change?

Since I know nothing about putting up a link, I’m afraid of cancelling this one because I wouldn’t know what to do next.

In my opinion, putting up such links is wrong in the first place. A developer may with your permission put up one valid link to his own site. Now, he has not only put up 5 such links to other sites, and one of them he has redirected to some other site – possibly without your knowledge. Under these premises, and on SEO point of view, I would suggest to delete that link if you can locate it. If you don’t want to do that, again, it is your own decision, for good or bad.

The next question that you raised is its location. If that cannot be located, it may be hard-coded in the sidebar. You need to look through the theme templates (use the editor).

Since I really don’t want to remove the name of my link (AnAuthorsThougts) and simply want to re-direct that link to https://www.AnAuthorsThoughts.com I still have a question. The link that it currently uses is https://www.weebly.com/weebly/main.php I just want to change that https://www.AnAuthorsThoughts.com

You mentioned looking at theme templates to make that change. I am now thoroughly confused. When you get a chance, would you mind taking me through this step by step so that I can redirect this link like I mentioned above? I sure would appreciate your help in this.

Did you look under Widgets on your site? It looks like that is where you would need to change that link.

Yes, I looked under Widgets on my site. Here is the URL for what I am seeing on the site: https://www.tommach.com/wp-admin/widgets.php

It seems that this link is hard-coded in theme.

If this is hard-coded, you have to edit sidebar.php file to change the link. This can be done form the WordPress admin interface by navigating to Appearance > Editor.

Select sidebar.php from the files listed on the right side and edit the link.
