How do I block the tags and archive sections of my wp site?

Are you talking about the links in the sidebar?, if you aren’t using any widgets you may get a default “dynamic sidebar” which automatically uses the standard widgets, two of which are tags and archives. If you insert another widget they’lll go away, you can use a blank text widget if you don’t wat anything in the sidebar.
