Using Buddypress 2.2.2 and WordPress 4.6.1 and Trying to figure out how to install the chat lite plugin to a group page…The only information I can find is on the plugin details which states the following:

“Provides you with a fully featured chat area either in a post, page or bottom corner of your site – once activated configure here and drop into a post or page by clicking on the new chat icon in your post/page editor.”

Okay, I configured it with no issue but can someone please tell me what “drop into a post or page by clicking on the new chat icon in your post/page editor” means? I have no clue what that means and when I open the group page, there is nothing to indicate a post/page editor. When I click on “Chat” in “settings” on the dashboard area, it directs me back to the configuration details.

So, what do I need to do to add this to the group page in order for people to chat? Thanks in advance for the help ??

Hello @403laura, I hope all is well!

I configured it with no issue but can someone please tell me what “drop into a post or page by clicking on the new chat icon in your post/page editor” means?

This means you can insert a chat’s shortcode inside a page or a post. Navigate to Posts > Add New, or to Page > Add New, click on the chat icon to insert a chat shortcode inside. Please see the screenshots:

As for the BuddyPress Group Chat, this feature, is included in a Pro version of the plugin. You can try it by subscribing for 15 days trial here.

Let me know if you have any further questions.

    Cheers,

Thank you for the help. Since I can’t do a group page chat is there a way that I can add a member login, so site visitors don’t have access to the chat page? This is kind of an experiment right now and I’m not ready to commit to the pro version until I have enough active members using the chat feature on a regular basis.

Also, is there a way to delete posts, as I am testing stuff and when it actually goes live I don’t want all the testing stuff I do to show up.

    Thanks again

    Hello @403laura,

Thank you for the help. Since I can’t do a group page chat is there a way that I can add a member login, so site visitors don’t have access to the chat page?

You can set in “Authentication” settings of the chat Login options to “Current user”

this means that only already logged users can participate chat. If visitor come to that page, they will only see that they need to be logged-in users.

Also, is there a way to delete posts, as I am testing stuff and when it actually goes live I don’t want all the testing stuff I do to show up.

I’m afraid you would need to disable plugin and delete those tables in the database wp_chat_log, wp_chat_message tables, as moderation tools are only avaliable in the premium version.
However – if you are using chat on page with shortcode

    [chat id="5" font="" ]

you can change ID number and this will load new chat without any messages.

    kind regards,
    Kasia
