How do I activate a new theme?

Review the Adding new themes section in the Using Themes article. May also need to change file permissions to 755 or even 777 for that theme folder or the files in that theme’s folder.

Michael, thanks for the quick response. I read through those links but am not able to find where I change the file permissions as you’ve suggested. I open the theme folder and don’t see where I can do this. I don’t mean to be dense, but I really need idiot-proof directions.

I use FileZilla to do that. Some hosts allow change file permissions via their File Manager also.

do I have the right file path?

this is where my themes are.

What folder is wp-config.php in? That’s the folder where wp-content resides, so wp-content/themes is the folder for your themes. In that folder wp-content/themes you should see the subfolders for classic and default, the two themes that come with WordPress.

Hi Michael… after almost 8 hours I finally got the theme up and running… mostly. Now I’m just trying to figure out how to manipulate it to what I really want. I’m used to Blogger and that was just so easy. This has been a huge challenge.
