In hopes of not to waste a lot of time:
I’m converting a xhtml site built with Dreamweaver to WP and after getting necessary plugins etc I wonder what is the easiest way to move the old pages’ contents to the new Pages and Posts.
    Am I thinking right here:
    – I’m thinking simply to copy/paste the code from each page’s main content into new pages/posts
    – But is there any way to avoid re-uploading about 2000 images?
I could use Dreamweaver to move all images to categorized folders inside wp-content/uploads (I’m using the Custom folder upload plugin) This way, all internal linking should be OK, – or will they?
    Any other hot tips?
    Thanks,
    Kjetil

You’re right on the first point, that unfortunately the only way to move content over would be to paste it into new entries within WordPress. It might be possible to parse the code with a script and automate it, but I can’t help you there because it’s far beyond my abilities and it would almost certainly be quicker for me to do it manually than it would to write a working script, no matter how large the site ??

As for the images, you should be able to leave them where they are. You can hotlink the images without having to use the built-in upload functionality or uploads folder, and the plain old img tags from the original HTML pages should work fine when pasted directly into WordPress.

    Hope that helps.

    Thanks – it helps
One question to clear up things though:
While Dreamweaver uses relative links for images, I MUST convert all of these to absolute URLs to make them work within WP – right?
If that is the only preparation needed, I’ve saved hours!
