how change image on home page?

  • Not sure how to word this (as said, am new as hell), but, a guy set up my blog and I’ve been using happily, but he’s disappeared…now I’m wondering how to tinker with what he set up, and want to know, is there a simple way to alter the ‘gif’ (I think it is) he put as my main image on my home page? I mean, I want to change from one image to another, not within text but outside: I’m called ‘mousewoman.com’, and there’s a pen there – I want to put a mouse there. Silly, but – can you help?

  • Make the mouse image 125px wide, and 150px high.

    Call the mouse image this : “pen-sm.jpg”

    Upload that image to this directory: mousewoman.com/wp-style/rubric/images/rubric/pen-sm.jpg

    Overwrite the old image, then force a browser refresh with CTRL-F5

    thanks – got as far as naming mouse image, went to look how to upload to wp-style. I’m afraid I’m dumb, don’t understand…how go to ‘directories’? tried to edit by searching for edit function on wp-style, got no such thing exists. Can you tell me, how upload to directory? how find anything on my blog about ‘directories’? thankyou for your help!

    to do this, use a FTP client like FileZilla to connect to your site via FTP.
    Then where you see your blog directory or the directory listing, look for this directory “wp-style”.
    In this directory, open the folder “rubric”. Likewise reach to the folder that will have this file “pen-sm.jpg”. Delete that and upload the new one. This should do it.

    Also, the directory structure also depends on wordpress version i think.. (if am not wrong on this.)

    sorry about this – is there an idiot’s guide, a guide for dummies or something? I got so far as downloading filezilla 2 2 10 dbg from the internet, having no idea what that is, and now, having unzipped the files inside, have no clue what to do. Windows doesn’t open them, and I don’t know what ftp is anyway. Would you or anyone be so kind as to walk me through as if I’m japanese? I mean, as if I’m from New Jersey, maybe (way) more accurate, and an English student?

    You will need some info first though, info which if you do not know, your host will be able to give you.
    This will be a username and a password.

    I am trying to do the exact same thing as mouse woman. However I see no wp-style directory.

    I uploaded the files to the directory path: /home/ameaney/public_html/wp-images so now do i poin the URL in the style sheet to https://www.meatriarchy.com and then at the above path???

    second question: make the image 125px by 150px – how?

    Some graphic programs will resize images.

    I use Irfanview, its free, to resize jpgs, gifs, bmps, and pngs.
