• Jason,

Two years and a month ago I posted “Slimstat Alternatives?” My post said:

Slimstat appears to no longer be supported since the developer stopped actively replying to these forum posts over three months ago. We used Slimstat on our sites for years because we refuse to force our users into the google surveillance ecosystem by using google analytics but using an unsupported plugin is dangerous.

We stayed with SlimStat for the last 2.5 years for the reason stated in my post and because SlimStat provides critical information about who is using or misusing our sites. As I said in my post: “using an unsupported plugin is dangerous.”

Why did you disappear and how can we trust you will not disappear again?

@cdx I have edited your post to remove the weird complaint about moderators closing a post, since the post you linked to (which I restored for you) explains the issue was “You need to not ask for alternatives.”

Now it’s possible you didn’t quite understand why, so I’m giving you the benefit of the doubt here ??

See, asking for alternatives is a tactic that competitors do to try and drum up links to their own plugins. They make fake accounts, leave a post like yours, and ask for ‘help.’ Sounds innocuous right? Sure, should be, but in reality most of the time people do it to be prats. Since there’s no way for anyone to see into your soul and know which is which, we opt towards the easiest to enforce which is simply “Please don’t ask about alternatives IN the subform for the plugin.”

I hope that you can see how I cleaned up the post, made it direct and to the actual point.

That said… People stop deving plugins for a lot of reasons. The last two years have been brutal on global mental health. Having a bit of empathy for someone isn’t a bad thing, especially when it’s someone you don’t know. Just keep that in mind. ??

    Thank you, @ipstenu.

Hi @cdx, I understand how people can be frustrated because of the lack of updates in the past two years. It was not in my plans to stop developing Slimstat, but as it was said here above, it’s been quite a ride for everyone. I have been trying to drum up interest for partnerships and contributors, and you’re more than welcome to contribute to this project. To answer your final question, all I can say is that my passion for this project is very much alive, and I plan on continuing to maintain it for the foreseeable future.

    Thank you for your patience,
    Jason
