We have a directory where we allow businesses (specific to our software’s field) submit their information to be hosted on our site for free. Since we only have a single category, we would like to disable the category selection step. We have the premium version of this plugin but are unable to find this in both the documentation and in the code (in order to possibly make a workaround).

Is there something we can do to disable this and just have it automatically just start on step 2 where the “listing information” form is?

The page I need help with: [log in to see the link]

    Hi @sjf

    Thanks for your question.

Business Directory Plugin is a custom post type in WordPress, and as such it does require a category for a listing to be posted. For most sites, there is some way to categorize the listings. If you’d like help brainstorming, I’d be happy to do that with you. You can contact me directly or post a response here. In response to “and as such it does require a category”… as I mentioned before, we do have a single category. We’ve had the plugin for years without requiring the end-user to select a category. Nothing has changed in this regard except the requirements the plugin demands. We would like to bypass the first step because of this fact.

@bobbied – also, this is not resolved, so I’m unsure why it’s marked as resolved.

    Hi @sjf

Sorry for any confusion about this. I marked this as resolved because there isn’t a way to skip the category selection step in the current version of Business Directory Plugin.

How did you do this in the past? I tried using CSS to hide the step, but it breaks the rest of the listing submission form in version 5.9.2.

@bobbied – correct, we’ve not been able to update since 5.7.3 without our site breaking. After this version, categories were added. I just personally find it hard to believe that there isn’t a way to skip the category section when we have used this plugin for so many years with the “submit a listing” form being a single step (information and images in the same step, and no category choice required), and it has been working just fine in the past until the submission form was split into 3 parts and category choice was implemented.

Thanks for that @sjf Can you tell me how you hacked the plugin to make that happen? It has always been a requirement of the plugin that a category be selected.

    Hey @sjf

I took a look at your site with the developer tonight — I appreciate you sending that in. It looks like you are using custom CSS to hide the fee plan and category selection, so that’s why more recent versions of the plugin won’t work.

I have submitted a request to address this issue in a future version of the plugin; namely, when there is only one fee plan and/or category, that first step in the submission process gets combined with the second step.

Thanks for your patience on this as we sorted out the issue. If you can please let me know if this resolves your question, I will close the ticket.

    Best,

Thanks Bobbie. Once this issue is fixed in the plugin, I’ll gladly mark this ticket resolved. I appreciate your help.
