How can we add padding or margins for the text?

Hello,
When the thumbnails are aligned to the top the text description below them has a clean margin/padding of perhaps 10px.
However when the thumbnails are aligned to the side of the text description there is no margin and the text butts up directly against the thumbnail image.
How can I add margins or padding to the text/images?
