How can to combine menu categories?

I have a new website and I am trying to create a separate section on the site for
the magazine editorial articles.The main site has 10 news categories and these categories display all types of post.
I have created a section for magazine editorial articles which displays all editorial articles but there is no option to filter articles by category.
I would like to set it so that readers can click a menu category and then view only editorial articles under the chosen heading.
e.g. Bikes + Editorial
I have created a menu for this section, but when you click the category it takes you to the entire news category which displays all articles.
Is there something I can do so that combines the main category with editorial articles, so that only those are displayed?

The only thing I can think of is to duplicate all the categories and then assign the editorial articles under the matching newly created duplicate categories and then create a new menu with the duplicated categories.
Is there an easier way?
If not, would this way have any negative impact on SEO? E.G Would this be regarded as duplicate content is if the articles were assigned to both the standard category and the editorial category?
