How Can I Work On My WordPress Site With a Local Copy?

  • Hi everyone,

    I’ve been using WordPress on my own domain for over a year now. What I’d like to do now is have the opportunity to work my my WordPress site when I’m not connected to the Internet.

    In other words, with a local copy on my laptop, eg when I’m out and about with my laptop and not within reach of a wifi hotspot and without use a mobile connection.

    I know it’s possible to use WAMP for a local website setup, but what concerns me are possible synchronization issues.

    I want to be able to continue to work on the site via the WP dashboard at the host provider as I do now, but also with the option to occasionally work on the site locally.

    For this the changes would have to be updated and synchronized in both directions without any hitches. Is it possible to do this?

    Would I have to install a full WAMP setup on my laptop, or could it be done some other way eg with Windows Live Writer?

    Does anyone have experience with this in practice and does it work ok?

  • If you do not have internet connection then I do not think there any way that you can synchronize the only way is to work on wamp and then upload your work with internet connection.

    I understand I have to synchronize using my internet connection, there’s of course no other way ??

    I just want to be certain it’s possible to do it in both directions (when I’m online), without problems.

    ie new content created or altered locally -> update to the domain online,

    as well as: new content created/altered on the domain online -> update to the local instance.

    id like to know as well. or better yet, what are best practices? is there a plugin that will give the main web address (www.example.com) a “under construction page?

    how do you develop the site and load it up with content. it cant be what i do which is work live on the site, refresh, etc…..

    Yes there are few plugins that will create a page and then when ready to go live just deactivate the plugin click on Extend and Plugins on this page and search for one
