How can I show feed item count?

WP RSS Aggregator doesn’t provide that feature by default. So you would definitely need to do some custom work for this.

For a start, you can try to look at the code similar to what we have done to show the value of the Imported Items column in the Feed Sources list. See screenshot below:

Is that number showing the total number of active rss entries? Will the “Imported items” number decrease accordingly, when an entry is deleted in the feed?

The “Imported items” number will decrease if you delete the imported feed items on your site.

It doesn’t reflect the actual number of feed items in the original feed, if that’s what you’re asking.

But if you mean for the feed items number on your own site, then yes, it is.

You can try it for yourself (deleting a feed item on your site) and see the result, if you’d like to.

So just to clarify.

1. The original feed has 110 items.
2. The WP Aggregator dashboard shows 110 times.
3. 10 days later the original feed is down to 105 items.
4. The WP Aggregator fetches the original feed, but since it’s down to 105, WP Aggregrator deletes old items that are no longer present in the original feed and the dashboard now shows 105 items.

Isn’t that how WP Aggregator works?

That isn’t necessarily true.

If you’d like to, you can keep the imported feed items on your site, even though the original ones already removed from the original feed.

But there is also some limit settings that you can use and set to how much feed items you’d like to keep per feed source or using the age limitation to store the feed items.

If you’d like to keep the number of the feed items on your site always the same with the original feed, that is also possible.

So it’s really up to you, how you’d like to keep or maintain the number of the feed items on your site.

Hi @jeppeskovsgaard,

You can use this filter to keep your feed in sync with its current state.

However, do note that it will require the removal and re-importing of all feed items for that feed source at every fetch. This means that if a feed item is no longer present in the feed after it’s deleted, there will be no way to re-import it.

If you understand this and this is indeed what you’re looking for, then you’re good to go.
