• I created a custom new role for a membership site and I want all the new paid members to be able to post things on the site, but only on certain pages with certain categories…

How do I set it up so that a specific custom role has a designated set of categories by default that they are limited to posting too…and have different categories for different roles based on membership type?

Hi @gromgrom, thanks for asking about this.

Unfortunately there are some limitations in the plugin right now where categories are concerned — the main emphasis in development was restricting access to specific pages, not posts.

The category filtering that’s currently set up affects already published posts — roles that have category restrictions can only edit existing posts that are in their category/-ies, but when they’re creating new posts, the full list of categories is still available to them. However, if you’re using the default capabilities settings, they can’t actually publish their new posts, they can only submit them for review by an editor.

I am planning in a near future update to work on filtering the category list on the editing page so the role can only see checkboxes for the category/-ies they have access to… I think that would accomplish what you’re looking for.

Most new features in the plugin have been prompted by user feedback, so now that this is in my head I most likely will feel compelled to work on it today! I can’t guarantee I’ll be able to resolve this today, but I will post an update once it’s done.
