How can I prevent a specific category from appearing?

Hi, I have a “hidden” category which is used to place articles as “Featured” on my homepage (it’s actually a feature of the Newspaper theme)
I would like this category tag to stop appearing at the top of the articles and in other pages where category tags are displayed.

Is there a simple code alteration that would allow me to filter this category out of any kind of tag, by its category id?
