How can I manually create a WordPress Export File – my dashboard is corrupted
-
I recently upgraded to 3.0.1 without problems. Shortly after, I was blogging late one night and somehow broke my blog’s backend. I have no idea how. Of course, I have no backup.
The front-end appears just fine, however, the back-end is causing me a lot of problems. When I log into my blog’s dashboard some dashboard pages work just fine (e.g. the whole ‘Settings’ section), some areas report an Error 500 message (e.g. ‘Media’ section) and some pages are completely blank (e.g. ‘Upload New Media’).
So, after much trying, head scratching and swearing I figured I couldn’t fix it; the repair was beyond my skills. But, because the front-end was behaving I thought there must be a way to export into a new blog.
Much searching later and the only way I can find to export my blog is by using the ‘Export’ function in the dashboard, however, this is one page that is blank (i.e. when I select the Export menu nothing whatsoever appears on screen). To add salt to the wounds the main ‘Tools’ sections displays just fine as does the ‘Import’ page.
So, here’s my question. If I can’t use my dashboard to export my blog is there another way? Does anyone have any idea how I can ‘scrape’ my blog (maybe using the RSS feed) and turn it into an (.wrx) .xml that I can import into another WordPress set up.
FYI – blog URL is https://jamesbliss.com/blog
Thanks in advance.
James
