• I have searched all the forums on getting rid of the side bar and have found some answers – BUT having gone through each posts and carefully gone through the instructions, step by step – I haven’t had any joy.
    I’m using Picolite.
    I have already duplicated the page.php file on my theme (using FTP), I have renamed it and changed the code. I have also changed the style.css file. Last of all, I selected the No-Sidebar Page template on the right column of each page.
    BUT NOTHING HAPPENS – there is still a great wodge of space down the right hand side while my page content remains all crunched up on the left. I really, really want to use the whole page width but it seems impossible. I chose the Picolite theme because of its customisable header.
    But if I am asking the impossible, is there a single theme in wordpress which allows me to add my own header and doesn’t have a side bar?

    PICOMOL!!!
    HELP IS NEEDED HERE or is the theme so inflexible I should I just choose another one, forget Picomol and for that matter, maybe forget wordpress and choose a different platform for my websites! It is not easy to use at all, it us horrible. I can never get the look I want and when I do send out a plea for help, no-one ever replies!

    would your theme be picolight instead of picolite? I couldn’t find the theme picolite.

    Dear mrtom, thanks for your reply.
    the theme has actually been renamed Picomol – but yes, it is very similar to what used to be called Picolight. I followed lots of instructions, but even with the new template available in edit page mode, it still didn’t get rid of the side bar.

    Helen, there are several themes in the WordPress repository to choose from. You just have to know what to look for. ??

    As for the theme you are using, unfortunately we can’t really say, or give, much since we don’t have access to the code. From reading your first, initial, posting I would say it sounds like a CSS related issue but that is just a shot in the dark.

    I will look at it when I get a chance. But I’m still pretty new to wordpress. My first thought would be to create a child theme and remove the <?php get_sidebar(); ?> statements in your index.php and page.php files. Also, You might have to edit your function.php and remove the code that is registers widgets in your sidebar. The function that creates the widget is register_sidebar function. I’m not sure if this helped you much.

    Hi everyone and thanks for your replies.

    mrtom414 I have already deleted that bit <?php get_sidebar(); ?> from the file page.php and re-saved it as no-sidebar-page.php

    I also added a line in the css file as follows:
    }
    .page-template-no-sidebar-page-php #content, .page-template-no-sidebar-page-php .post { width: 960px; }

    This template-no-sidebar appears on each page as an alternative template, but does nothing when selected. I got all this from another forum and the enquirer said it worked.
    I’ll see if I can tweak the index.php file as you suggest – MANY THANKS

    No joy unfortunately.
    The index.php doesn’t have that line of code.
    The website is https://www.backgammon-boards.co.uk/ one of our domain names we use to practice building wordpress sites.
    I don’t think it is possible to change this – I’ve even tried deleting the file sidebar.php.
