  • These forums are not for contacting specific people, If you have a problem with this (rather old & outdated) plugin, please post it here. But be warned, the plugin hasn’t been updated in 9 years. It may no longer be maintained or supported and may have compatibility issues when used with more recent versions of WordPress.

Yes, I know and you’re absolutely right. Sorry about that. I just wanted to contact the author to find out if he would allow me to continue development of this plugin. Is there any way I might be able to reach him?

We don’t seem to have any contact details for that developer. ??

All I can suggest is that you fork the plugin as something like “WP Gallery Reloaded” and ensure that the original author is credited in the readme.txt file.

    Good idea, thanks, Esmi!

Isn’t there some kind of rule that says plugins have to be updated on a regular basis else they will be removed? I mean what’s the use in keeping plugins around that haven’t been updated for 10 years?

At present, there is no such rule as some plugins do still work just fine.

One more question, Esmi. Can an author of a plugin transfer a plugin to someone else? If so how? Or can a plugin have more than one author?

Yes – to both questions. Some plugins have 4 or more contributors and a plugin author can pass his/her plugin over to another contributor.

So how exactly is that done? I see multiple how to add committers, but not to “pass his/her plugin over”.

    Thanks

    Hello again, Esmi!

As you can see I found ghutchis. ??

He would like to pass his plugin over to me but we’re a bit in the dark as to how this is done. Could you help us out, please?

@reginald: First ghutchis could add you (using your WPORG username) as a contributor & committer. That would a good way to indicate to everyone that this is part of an agreed handover.

Next, you need to establish if ghutchis wishes to retain any involvement (albeit just on “paper”) with WP Gallery. If “yes”, then neither of you need to do anything more. WP Gallery can continue “as is” with Reginald being the more active developer.

If “no”, then (due to the technical limitations of the WPORG svn system), Reginald would need to ask for a new account for a “new” plugin called (say) WP Gallery Reloaded. Once that has been established and the new forked plugin released, ghutchis can ask for the original plugin to be removed.

    Does that all make sense?

Hi Esmi, ghtuchis does not wish to remain involved but wants me to become the new author of the plugin. Is that possible?
