how can I display only 1 or 2 articles on index page of wordpress

  • Im new to wordpress,i like it very very much.There’s one thing i want to edit..and i need you experts help please.
    My point is that, when i post articles on the wordpress, it keep on posting on the index page..and the index page gets long and longer.
    I want that it displays only 1 0r 2 latest added articles.. (any fixed number of posts) on front page..is it possible ? Please help me in this regard..
