how can i display a single category in a sidebar widget?

Hi,

in my left sidebar i’d like to display the first widget as “site news”. i created a site news category separate from the home page posts and would like to display only posts from that category in that first widget.

is there a plugin for this or another way of doing it? or is it even possible?
